Message from the President . . .

Dear Colleagues:

Welcome to the newly renovated Peripheral Vascular Surgical Society (PVSS) Website. The PVSS organization enters its 32nd year after it began as the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Club in 1976. The organization continues to strive to further the field of vascular and endovascular surgery through education, scholarship, advocacy, and the dissemination of original research. A commitment to the young vascular surgeon is a unique aspect of our society, with active members required to be no more than 12 years from completion of fellowship training. Our members have specialized training in open surgical and minimally invasive procedures allowing them to provide the optimal therapy for vascular disease.

Our current membership includes over 750 active and senior members and continues to grow. It represents a balanced mix of academic and vascular surgeons who regularly attend our semiannual scientific sessions. The winter PVSS meeting is a forum for original research, lively discussion, camaraderie on the ski slopes, and this year will include a new Saturday afternoon session focusing on difficult cases. The peer reviewed papers are submitted to The Annals of Vascular Surgery for consideration for publication.

In the past, the abundance of winter recreational activities has encouraged many attendees to bring their families to this meeting. The abstract deadline for this year’s meeting is September 15, 2008. The 19th Annual Winter Meeting will be held January 30-February 1, 2009 at the Steamboat Grand in Steamboat Springs, CO. The 34th Annual Spring Meeting will be held June 11-13, 2009, in Denver Colorado, in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Society for Vascular Surgery and other leading vascular organizations (Vascular Annual Meeting). The abstract deadline for the Spring Meeting is March 13, 2009. Manuscripts from this meeting are submitted to The Journal of Vascular Surgery for consideration for publication.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I invite you to become actively involved in this lively and stimulating vascular society.

Sincerely,

Tina R. Desai, MD, FACS
President, PVSS
